I've been participating in the sport of triathlon for 15 years now. I started out doing a super sprint distance in Vancouver and I went on to race a half ironman many years later. I've also entered lots of running races of varying distances. I have to be honest though, I haven't actually signed up for a race for about two years now.
I still train though. More biking, lots of running and little swimming. I actually only swim when I'm in Maui. It's much nicer to swim outdoors, in free pools ;-). Mind you, our lakes here in the summer offer some pretty spectacular open water swimming!
Anyway, the point is, I still train like I'm going to race. Why? I guess the main reason is because I love it. I love being outside (you'll never find me on a treadmill or stationary bike), I love pushing my body and I love how I feel when I'm done. You'd be right if you said I'm probably a little addicted to those three things.
My partner also happens to be a professional triathlete so inspiration is never far from sight ;-)
If you ever have any questions about triathlon, please ask, I would love to hear about your training or your first race or whatever else you want to share.
Addictions. Good to have when they are healthy!
My Latest...and greatest
Situps. Yep, I've created a lucky 13 routine (thankfully, it rhymes too ;-) that consists of a variety of tummy flattening and toning exercises. I am doing them 5 days a week. I have been trying to do them before I eat in the morning before going to work. It provides a great metabolic boost to get your engines going and burning all day long. A metabolism kick-start ;-)
I just finished my second FitStar Yoga session I found on this amazing free app that I downloaded to my IPad Mini. Loved it!! It is personalized so every move you do is adjusted to your level / comfort zone. I love a workout that I can do in the comfort of my own home at any time I want to do it. I'm looking forward to gaining more flexibility and becoming stronger in my core.
You should really check it out!!
